With the last post just about away, things are finally calming down in the office and we are all looking forward to a cosy Christmas. We’d like to thank everyone for all the support in 2011 – which has certainly been a busy year for us. December saw Waitrose stocking our Edinburgh Gin. Read more on this story.

It has been a big year for our gin. Edinburgh Gin won two awards this year. Scotland Food and Drink best drink 2011 and two gold stars from the Taste Awards. We have also sold Edinburgh Gin into America, Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden.

Love for our whiskies continues to grow with Pig’s Nose and Sheep Dip Whisky being sold throughout the UK and by many new distributors

Our new Perthshire Raspberry Infused Edinburgh Gin has proved extremely popular and we are delighted at the response from our customers.

We have been present at most food/trade/agricultural shows throughout the year and have even started going to Farmers markets, which are going extremely well.

2012 will bring new variations of Edinburgh Gin similar to our new Raspberry infused Edinburgh Gin which has been flying off the shelves. We will also be bringing out a new vintage whisky and expanding into further world markets.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our customers – without your support Spencerfield would be lost!

We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Spencerfield Spirit Co.

Check out the the fabulous Christmas cake recipe on Real Food Festivals website.

I may seem a little old-fashioned in that I don’t use a mixer but
make my cake in a big mixing bowl – most modern mixers aren’t
big enough to accommodate the ingredients of a big Christmas
cake anyway, and it’s such a pain washing them. Our children
have always liked to be included in any cake-making – it’s the
thrill of taking lots of different things and creating something
else. And indeed how else will they learn to cook? I use an Aga,
so I just pop the cake in the bottom oven and leave it to cook
for 2½ or 3 hours. Then I take it out and test it by sticking
a knitting needle into the cake.

We are about to launch a brand new whisky and would like some assistance picking the product name. The winner will receive the first ever bottle we produce of this exclusive whisky

Background of the Whisky:

  • This whisky was distilled and blended in 1999 in Scotland, in 2002 it was then shipped to Sanchez Romate in Jerez, Spain
  • Once in Spain the whisky was racked into Olorosso (Sherry Butts) and left for nine years (this is a 12 year old Whisky)
  • We will produce 1500x6pack cases and this batch is unique and irreplaceable
  • The whisky smells distinctly of chocolate, raisins, cream soda and oranges
  • The name of the whisky should begin with Sheep Dip’s  __________

So please get your thinking caps on and you could be in with a chance to win an exclusive and limited edition whisky.

All comments/ideas to be posted below or emailed to jennifer@spencerfieldspirit.com

We will give you the weekend to think about it and take all ideas in on Monday. Good Luck!

Here in the office at Spencerfield Spirit Company we are really excited about our recent delivery from Bertie Girl. She has sent us an outstanding collection of scrumptious mobile phone cases – made from the impossibly beautiful Harris Tweed.  Unique, quirky and totally original – the only way to describe these little beauties.

We will be selling these perfect gifts at some of the forthcoming Christmas fairs dotted about the UK, they’ll be coming with a little miniature whisky all for the bargain price of £15.95

Bag yourself a treat or an original gift before they run out!  Even Sid the office cat was impressed.

This week has been a busy week and we have a undertaken another cocktail competition in association with the Scottish Society of Professional Bartenders.

Barman Bruce Hamilton from Ondine in Edinburgh has been crowned the winner of Edinburgh Gin’s new cocktail competition hosted in association with the Scottish Society of Professional Bartenders.

The competition put the city’s talent to the test with entries from all over Edinburgh. Bruce Hamilton impressed the judges with his excellent recipe and triumphed over competition from Edinburgh’s leading bartenders with his Edinburgh Gin ‘Edinburgh Citrusity’ cocktail

The winning drink was a refreshing mix of Gin, Aperol, Orange Juice, and Vermouth and will be seen in the Skinny magazine’s Cocktail column next month. The winner received a case of Edinburgh Gin and a bottle of Sheep Dip’s Old Hebridean 1990 Whisky. The runner up was Roddy Short from the Balmoral Hotel with his Edinburgh’s Orchard cocktail.

Judges were Martin Duffy, secretary of the Association of Scottish Bartender’s, Hattie Nicol and Bruce Borthwick both from Spencerfield Spirit. They all had a great time

As usual it is incredibly hectic here at Spencerfield – lots of summer events, orders and work to be getting on with. Last week we sponsored Fest magazine’s 10th Anniversary Festival party at the Electric Circus club in Edinburgh. Hattie and I went along to give out 3 hours of free Edinburgh Gin cocktails which went down really well! We served up two cocktails – A classic Edinburgh Gin and Fentimans Tonics with a stick of Lemongrass and a Edinburgh Gin and Fentimans Rose Lemonade with fresh strawberry. There was some brilliant cabaret acts on and the club was full of the great and good of Edinburgh. It was a brilliant evening and we were really pleased to be a part of it. See below for some pictures.
